Beyond his surgical experience, he brings a unique perspective to the clinic through his background in software development, which he applies to three-dimensional preoperative planning and computer-assisted navigation.

Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta has appointed fellowship-trained surgeon Dr. Michael Bergen to its Sandy Springs practice. A specialist in sports medicine and orthopedic trauma, Bergen returns to the Atlanta area with a background that merges complex reconstructive surgery with an advanced interest in computer-assisted medical technology.
His professional experience includes serving as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as working with various collegiate and high school athletic programs. CEO Michael Ochal noted that Bergen’s arrival marks a homecoming for the surgeon, who previously completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University. Dr. Bergen is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, with a research portfolio covering 3D printing and patient-specific digital modeling.
