Four Companies Reach $149 Million Settlement Over PFAS Water Claims

A series of proposed class action settlements totaling $149 million has been reached to address PFAS contamination in public drinking water systems across the United States. The agreements resolve claims against four manufacturers, though the companies involved continue to deny any liability regarding the presence of chemical contaminants.

The settlements involve Carrier Global Corporation, Archroma U.S., Inc., Amerex Corporation, and Nation Ford Chemical Company. Carrier leads the group with a $129.2 million contribution, followed by Archroma at $14 million, Amerex at $4 million, and Nation Ford at $1.875 million. These funds are designated for public water systems that either reported impacted water sources by July 31, 2026, or met specific population and testing requirements under federal standards.

Eligible systems must file claim information to receive payment, while those opting to exclude themselves from the settlement must file a request by December 22, 2026. Systems that choose to remain in the class have until November 23, 2026, to submit formal objections. The United States District Court for the District of South Carolina is scheduled to hold a final fairness hearing on January 15, 2027, to determine whether to grant formal approval. The litigation remains active against other defendants not covered by these particular agreements.
