CME Group Hits Record Trading Volumes in September and Third Quarter

The exchange reported an average daily volume of 31.8 million contracts for September, a 22% increase over the same month last year. This performance contributed to a record-breaking third quarter, which saw an average of 29.4 million contracts traded daily, marking a 16% year-over-year gain. Both figures surpassed the historical benchmarks set by the company in 2024.

Driving the September growth was a robust performance in interest rate products, which climbed 22% to reach 16.2 million contracts. Treasury futures and options saw particularly heavy activity, with 10-Year U.S. Treasury Note futures jumping 51% to 2.6 million contracts. Equity index products also maintained strong momentum, rising 16% to 8.1 million contracts, supported by heavy interest in Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures. Meanwhile, energy and agricultural sectors saw gains of 37% and 29% respectively, further cementing the breadth of the current trading surge.
