Celaid Therapeutics Secures JPY 400 Million to Advance Stem Cell Therapy

This latest investment, combined with newly awarded Stage 3 funding from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), brings the biotech startup’s cumulative funding to approximately JPY 3.42 billion. The company intends to direct these resources toward manufacturing, safety assessments, and regulatory filings required for its upcoming Investigational New Drug (IND) application in the United States.

CLD-001 targets severe pediatric non-malignant diseases by utilizing proprietary technology to expand hematopoietic stem cells harvested from umbilical cord blood. By overcoming the traditional limitations of cell volume and donor matching, the therapy aims to improve survival outcomes for patients requiring transplants. With a Pre-IND meeting already completed with the FDA and technology transfer finalized with a U.S. contract manufacturer, Celaid is now prioritizing the transition to first-in-human clinical trials.
