Greater Good Charities Pushes Back Against News Fatigue with Viral Campaign

As digital doom-scrolling drives global cynicism, Seattle-based nonprofit Greater Good Charities is attempting to flip the script. The organization launched the "Good Exists" campaign today, combining a $100,000 grant pool with a TikTok challenge designed to reward grassroots community leaders and verify that positive change is still happening on the ground.

The initiative invites social media users to document local acts of kindness and tag nonprofits performing meaningful work. By incentivizing creators to highlight community heroes, the organization aims to disrupt the algorithmic preference for sensationalized and divisive headlines. Five winners will be selected from the submissions, with the charity providing grant funding to support their chosen causes.

"The media landscape is filled with stories that leave people feeling overwhelmed and powerless," said Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities. The effort seeks to address the reality that over 50% of Americans now rely on social media as their primary news source, often exposing them to a constant stream of negative content. Noah Horton, the organization's Chief Growth Officer, noted that the campaign is a direct attempt to flood digital feeds with verified, measurable good news. Submissions for the challenge are open now, with public voting scheduled for late October and final grant recipients to be announced on November 7.
