Medicare Grants NTAP Status to icotec Spinal Stabilization System

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has approved a New Technology Add-On Payment for icotec’s CMORE Cervicothoracic spine system, effective October 1, 2026. This designation allows eligible hospitals to receive additional reimbursement when using the radiolucent implant technology for qualifying Medicare procedures, marking a significant commercial expansion for the company.

Medicare Grants NTAP Status to icotec Spinal Stabilization System

The CMORE system, which utilizes proprietary BlackArmor Carbon/PEEK material, is designed to support spinal stabilization while allowing for clear visualization during postoperative X-ray, CT, and MRI assessments. By securing this payment status, icotec aims to increase clinical access to its nonmetallic implants, which are engineered to treat various posterior cervicothoracic pathologies.

CEO Christoph Eigenmann noted that the approval follows the system's Breakthrough Device Designation granted in April 2025. Beyond its imaging benefits, the CMORE system remains the only posterior cervicothoracic technology approved by the FDA for treating spinal infections. While the NTAP status provides a pathway for hospital reimbursement, icotec clarified that specific billing and coverage determinations remain subject to CMS regulations and individual payer requirements.
