Ethereum Slides Toward Key Support Amid Global Market Volatility

Geopolitical friction near the Strait of Hormuz has triggered a sharp retreat in the cryptocurrency markets, pushing Ethereum toward a precarious technical floor. As the token tests the $2,500 to $2,560 support zone, traders are weighing the potential for a rebound against the risk of a deeper structural breakdown.

Ethereum Slides Toward Key Support Amid Global Market Volatility

Ethereum traded near $2,565 on Oct. 7, shedding roughly 5% of its value after failing to sustain momentum above $2,800. The decline mirrors a broader flight from risk assets, fueled by rising tensions in the Middle East and a subsequent surge in Brent crude prices to $101.50 per barrel. Simultaneously, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.31%, further damping investor appetite for digital assets.

Market data underscores the intensity of the flush: over $400 million in long positions were liquidated during the session, accelerating the price drop. Ethereum has slipped beneath its 20-day moving average of $2,684, leaving the 50-day average at $2,565 as the primary line of defense. Analysts, including those monitoring the token's triangle breakout, suggest that holding this $2,500–$2,560 corridor is essential to keep a path toward $3,000 viable. Conversely, a failure to defend these levels could invite a more aggressive correction as technical indicators, including the daily RSI at 44.55, show weakening momentum.
