MARA Holdings Shifts $81M in Bitcoin to Galaxy Digital

MARA Holdings has transferred 996.105 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $81.13 million, to institutional service provider Galaxy Digital. While onchain analytics firm Lookonchain flagged the movement as a potential liquidation, the lack of definitive exchange data leaves the actual purpose of the transaction—whether a sale or custody move—unconfirmed.

The transfer, identified by onchain data on October 9, arrives at a precarious moment for Bitcoin, which has been struggling to maintain momentum near the $82,300 level. MARA, a major industry player formerly known as Marathon Digital Holdings, has a history of utilizing its treasury assets for operational financing, debt collateral, and expansion projects. Given its past financial moves, including a $1.63 billion sell-off earlier this year to fund infrastructure and liquidity needs, market observers remain sensitive to any large-scale movement from the company’s wallets.

Technical indicators underscore the market's current fragility. Bitcoin is currently trading beneath its 10-day and 20-day exponential moving averages, signaling persistent selling pressure. Analysts suggest that if the downward trend continues, the asset could test support levels near $80,514 and eventually $79,742. Despite these short-term headwinds, the company has not issued a statement clarifying whether this specific transfer to Galaxy Digital constitutes a divestment or a routine asset management arrangement. In previous instances, such as a large transfer in June, similar market speculation regarding sales was later disputed by analysts who identified the activity as collateral management.
