The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded a 4.5-star rating to the Commonwealth Care Alliance Senior Care Options plan for 2027. This advancement from last year’s 4-star score places the Boston-based organization among the top 16% of Medicare Advantage plans nationwide, reflecting improved clinical and administrative performance.

Commonwealth Care Alliance Senior Plan Hits 4.5-Star CMS Rating

The rating evaluates plans across 40 distinct performance metrics, ranging from preventive screenings and chronic condition management to behavioral health support. With a national average of 3.99 stars, the achievement underscores the plan's recent integration into CareSource systems. According to John Koehn, President of CCA and Massachusetts Market President at CareSource, the improved score highlights the organization’s focus on accountability and consistent health outcomes for its members.

Currently, the Senior Care Options plan supports over 19,000 individuals, many of whom navigate complex medical needs. By coordinating local provider partners and community resources, the program enables the vast majority of its nursing home-certifiable members to remain in their own homes. Beyond the senior plan, CCA’s One Care initiative—serving dual-eligible members aged 21 to 64—maintained a 4-star parent organization rating, further solidifying the company's regional footprint in Massachusetts.
