The Harvard Management Company’s portfolio shift signals a high-conviction bet on the aerospace firm, which now serves as the university's largest public holding. This stake in SpaceX is six times larger than its next-biggest position in Taiwan Semiconductor. Other significant holdings include Cerebras, Amazon, Alphabet, and Nvidia, contributing to a total portfolio value that doubled to $4.3 billion in just three months.

Harvard Endowment Outpaces S&P 500 With Massive SpaceX Stake
A 27.1% return for the fiscal year ending June 30 has propelled Harvard University's endowment to a record $68 billion. The university's aggressive investment strategy, headlined by a $2.2 billion position in Elon Musk’s SpaceX, allowed the nearly 400-year-old institution to comfortably outperform the S&P 500’s 22.3% gain.

University officials noted that these robust returns provide a vital buffer against fluctuations in federal research funding. While the endowment’s public equity holdings remain a focused segment, the broader fund allocation reflects a diversified approach: 46% is tied to private equity and 29% to hedge funds, with real estate and other assets rounding out the remainder. As SpaceX continues to navigate a volatile valuation landscape, Harvard remains among a select group of institutional investors—including Alphabet and Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund—holding substantial equity in the rocket manufacturer.
