Thai Police Arrest Chinese National in 500 Million Yuan Laundering Case

Thai immigration authorities have apprehended a 37-year-old Chinese national known as Wu, ending his four-year residency in a Bangkok luxury housing estate. Wanted in China for connections to a loan-sharking gang, the suspect allegedly operated a sophisticated money-laundering network facilitating crypto-to-fiat exchanges for transnational criminal organizations.

Officers tracked Wu to a property in the Saphan Sung district after receiving intelligence through international police channels. Investigators allege the suspect managed a vast financial operation involving over 133 bank accounts. His method relied on recruiting individuals to open accounts and provide bank cards, which were then used to funnel illicit funds through a combination of digital currency exchanges and traditional banking systems. The total transaction volume linked to his network is estimated to exceed 500 million yuan.

To evade detection, Wu reportedly utilized forged documents to secure his housing and frequently altered his vehicle’s appearance with different-colored wraps and registration plates. While Chinese authorities seek his return to face criminal charges, Thai police have formally charged him with overstaying his visa by nearly four years under the Immigration Act of 1979. Officials are currently coordinating deportation procedures to facilitate his transfer to China, marking another step in Thailand’s ongoing crackdown on transnational financial crime and illegal crypto-to-fiat laundering operations.
