Investors Pull $548 Million from Crypto ETFs Amid Price Volatility

U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs faced a difficult week, shedding $320.1 million in net withdrawals for the period ending October 16. This exodus outpaced Bitcoin funds, which saw $228.4 million in outflows, as a broader cooling of market sentiment pressured both assets amid fluctuating inflation data and cooling interest.

Investors Pull $548 Million from Crypto ETFs Amid Price Volatility

The latest figures from Farside Investors reveal a grim landscape for Ethereum-based products, which have now suffered three consecutive weeks of net losses totaling roughly $1 billion. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) acted as the primary engine for this decline, accounting for nearly $299 million of the weekly withdrawals. This concentration of selling pressure meant that ETHA alone represented over 93% of the category’s net weekly outflow, highlighting how the movement of a single major product can dictate the sector's performance.

Bitcoin funds navigated a more volatile path, marked by sharp daily swings. While the category recorded $228.4 million in net outflows, this included a single-day loss of $261.4 million on Wednesday—a figure that exceeded the entire week’s net total for the asset. This mid-week turbulence coincided with U.S. inflation data arriving higher than expected, which triggered widespread liquidations in leveraged derivatives and weakened spot demand. Despite these short-term redemptions, cumulative inflows since launch remain significant, with Bitcoin ETFs holding $56.95 billion and Ethereum funds at $12.97 billion in total net inflows.
