XRP Ledger Nears Bug-Fix Activation as Lending Proposals Stall

The XRP Ledger is on track to implement a critical suite of software fixes by October 23, having secured the required 29 validator votes. While this maintenance update advances, the network's ambitious decentralized lending system remains in limbo, failing to meet the necessary consensus threshold for activation.

XRP Ledger Nears Bug-Fix Activation as Lending Proposals Stall

The amendment, known as fixCleanup3_4_0, addresses technical debt ranging from vault accounting and automated market maker issues to transaction processing errors. As of October 19, the proposal maintained exactly the 29 votes needed from the network’s default trusted list. If support holds through the mandatory 14-day observation period, the changes will trigger during the ledger’s next designated flag interval. Operators have been urged to upgrade to version 3.4.0 of the xrpld software; failure to do so risks rendering servers amendment-blocked once the new rules take effect.

Despite the progress on maintenance, the network’s push into decentralized finance faces a significant delay. The primary lending framework, XLS-66, and its companion vault proposal, XLS-65, currently lack the required validator majority. Even if these proposals gained immediate support, they would still be subject to a two-week waiting period, ensuring they cannot launch alongside the current bug-fix package. The proposed lending architecture relies on off-chain brokers to vet borrower creditworthiness, a design choice intended to facilitate fixed-term loans without requiring direct on-chain collateral. While Ripple has publicly backed these financial amendments, the ledger remains focused on stabilizing its core infrastructure before expanding into complex lending protocols.
