How a Girls' Weekend Sparked an Eight-Figure Mocktail Empire

When Laura Taylor returned from a trip to the Poconos in 2017, she bypassed her family to head straight for her home office. Frustrated by the lack of sophisticated nonalcoholic options at social gatherings, the former tech sales professional had decided to build a brand that would eventually dominate the category.

Taylor launched Mingle Mocktails with a $125,000 initial investment, transitioning from a corporate career to the high-stakes beverage industry. Her early days were defined by 60-hour work weeks and steep learning curves, including a near-disastrous labeling error at Whole Foods that forced her to manually relabel 5,000 bottles. Despite warnings that beverage startups face dismal success rates, she persisted by networking with industry veterans and leveraging resources like BevNET and the Tory Burch Foundation.

Her persistence paid off. What began as a side hustle generating $250,000 in its first 18 months has transformed into an eight-figure business. Today, Mingle holds the top spot in the nonalcoholic category at Total Wine and maintains a presence in over 15,000 retail locations nationwide. For Taylor, the success is rooted in a simple mission: ensuring those who choose not to drink still feel included in the celebration. As a sober entrepreneur for 11 years, she now oversees a product line that includes both ready-to-drink cocktails and functional beverages, proving that the demand for inclusive social drinking is far from a niche market.
