Following regulatory approval, Mirae Asset Consulting, an affiliate of the Mirae Asset Financial Group, has moved to consolidate its position. A recent filing indicates the firm intends to purchase an additional 7.35 million shares for roughly 7.2 billion won ($5.32 million). This transaction will push Mirae Asset’s total ownership to 97.15%, up from its current 92.06% stake. The deal represents the first instance of a traditional South Korean financial group absorbing a crypto exchange.
Despite the shift in ownership, Korbit has signaled that business will continue as usual. The exchange confirmed that user login credentials, trading interfaces, and asset withdrawal processes remain unaffected. Customer deposits will continue to be held separately from company funds, adhering to the requirements of South Korea’s Virtual Asset User Protection Act. The firm also stated that personal data handling protocols will see no changes, requiring no further action from its user base.
