Data from Greeks.live confirms that 149,000 Bitcoin options worth $9.6 billion expired on July 31, alongside 435,000 Ether contracts valued at $830 million. While the low 0.28 put-call ratio for Bitcoin initially suggested bullish sentiment, the majority of call options remained out of the money, as strikes were heavily concentrated above the $70,000 threshold. Consequently, the assets showed minimal volatility, with Bitcoin hovering around $63,824 and Ether trading near $1,891 immediately following the settlement.
Market analysts note that the max-pain level—the price point where the largest volume of options expires worthless—acted as a gravitational anchor rather than a launchpad. Although institutional interest remains, evidenced by $233.1 million in inflows to U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs on July 30, the market has struggled to establish support above $65,000. For Ether, the 0.63 put-call ratio reflected a more cautious stance compared to Bitcoin, though it indicated a shift toward less defensive positioning than observed earlier in the month.
