Mississippi Launches First Data Center Workforce Training Program

The Mechanical, Electrical and Information Technology (MEI) Data Center Pathway Program aims to build a local talent pipeline for a sector facing a global shortfall of over 500,000 workers. By removing barriers such as tuition costs—fully funded by Compass Datacenters for the inaugural cohort—the initiative seeks to place graduates into roles that often pay significantly above local median salaries. The curriculum focuses on the same high-tech equipment used in modern facilities, ensuring students are prepared for immediate employment upon completion.

Ten industry partners, including Schneider Electric, Siemens, and Vertiv, are backing the pilot at the Riley Workforce Development Center. This collaboration mirrors a successful model previously implemented in Texas, where graduates secured positions with major industry players. Local officials, including Governor Tate Reeves and Meridian Mayor Percy Bland III, view the program as a cornerstone of the region's long-term economic strategy. The partnership highlights a commitment to integrating the local workforce into the expanding digital economy, with the first classes scheduled to begin this fall.
