Total assets at the issuer reached $187.7 billion against $183.6 billion in liabilities, leaving a cushion of $4.1 billion in excess reserves. This financial health relies heavily on US government-backed securities, making Tether’s earnings sensitive to Federal Reserve interest rate shifts. While the core business remains anchored to traditional debt, the company is actively shifting its reserve composition by trimming $2.4 billion in secured loans and adding 14 tons of physical gold, bringing its total holdings to 146 tons.

Tether Reports $1.5B Profit as USDT Market Dominance Grows
Tether generated $1.5 billion in net operating profit during the second quarter of 2026, bolstered by high yields from US Treasury holdings and repo operations. The firm’s latest BDO attestation reveals a massive expansion in circulating supply, with USDT reaching $184.6 billion and commanding over 60% of the global stablecoin market.

Beyond its core stablecoin, Tether is diversifying its infrastructure. It recently expanded its US-focused USAT token to the Celo blockchain to facilitate digital-dollar payments and is exploring tokenized capital markets in Kenya through a memorandum with the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Despite these experimental ventures into African financial systems and ongoing preparations for a Big Four audit, the company remains tethered to the performance of its primary assets, including $5.8 billion in Bitcoin, which adds market volatility to an otherwise interest-driven balance sheet.
