Cornerstone Bancorp Reports Growth in Lending and Wealth Management

Cornerstone Bancorp posted a consolidated net income of $3.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a climb from $2.8 million during the same period last year. The Palatine-based institution leveraged a 16% expansion in its loan portfolio to drive earnings to $3.2 per diluted share.

The bank’s performance was anchored by robust lending activity, with the loan portfolio reaching $795.7 million by June 30, 2026. This growth contributed to a net interest margin of 3.97%, up from 3.65% a year prior. While interest earned on loans rose to $12.2 million, the firm simultaneously saw an uptick in its wealth management division. Assets under management in this segment surged to $1.36 billion, generating $1.3 million in revenue for the quarter.

Despite the competitive landscape in the Chicago market, Cornerstone maintained a stable capital position with a Tier 1 Leverage Capital Ratio of 10.36%. Tangible shareholders' equity saw a significant improvement of 14.3%, reaching $96.5 million. Managing costs remained a focus, as noninterest expenses rose moderately to $6.9 million from $6.5 million in 2025. The institution continues to emphasize relationship-based banking, distinguishing itself from larger competitors as it expands its footprint across its Illinois office locations.
