Kraken Expands European Trading to Include U.S. Equities
Eligible customers across the European Economic Area can now trade over 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks directly through Kraken. This rollout integrates traditional equities into the same platform as the exchange’s existing catalog of 600 crypto assets and 700 tokenized xStocks, allowing users to move between asset classes without transferring capital.
The new service is provided via Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, a Cyprus investment firm authorized under the European Union’s MiFID II directive. Kraken is positioning the move as a unified gateway for European investors, contrasting its dual-access model with competitors that typically offer either traditional shares or synthetic tokenized derivatives.
Mark Greenberg, chief commercial officer of Kraken’s parent company Payward, noted that the platform allows users to choose between traditional ownership and blockchain-based representations within a single regulated account. The company confirmed that stock trades will carry no commission, though users must accept specific terms to unlock the equities feature.
This expansion follows rapid growth for Kraken’s xStocks products, which have processed more than $38 billion in volume since their June 2025 debut. The exchange has steadily increased the utility of these tokenized assets, recently enabling users to post them as collateral for margin positions and granting voting rights to over 125,000 holders. While currently focused on U.S. securities, Payward has signaled plans to incorporate international equities from markets like Hong Kong, South Korea, and the United Kingdom through a partnership with infrastructure provider GTN.
