Binance records largest Bitcoin outflow in three years

Investors pulled more than 13,800 BTC from Binance in a single day, marking the exchange's most significant net outflow since 2023. This movement coincides with Bitcoin sustaining a price above $84,000, following a robust 45% rally from its July lows that successfully breached key technical resistance levels.

Binance records largest Bitcoin outflow in three years

Over a four-day span, Binance saw its total Bitcoin reserves contract from approximately 705,000 BTC to 685,000 BTC. CryptoQuant analyst Darkfrost, who tracked the data, noted that while the seven-day average netflow has settled near negative 2,000 BTC, the recent daily spike highlights a shift in holder behavior. The outflow reflects a move toward self-custody as Bitcoin pushes past the $82,000 mark, a price threshold that previously stifled recovery attempts.

While exchange netflow data confirms the movement of assets, it does not explicitly define investor intent. Transfers may represent a transition to private cold storage, institutional custody, or rebalancing between platforms. However, by reducing the supply of Bitcoin readily available on the exchange, these withdrawals mechanically mitigate immediate selling pressure. This trend contrasts sharply with patterns observed in May, when Binance experienced significant inflows as market participants navigated periods of high volatility. As Bitcoin continues to trade near $84,000, the sustained withdrawal activity suggests that market participants are increasingly prioritizing long-term holding over active trading.
