Johnson differentiates her firm’s BENJI platform by its native integration, where the blockchain serves as the primary system of record. According to the company’s research, a "digital twin" model functions only as a tokenized mirror of offchain data, whereas the BENJI architecture embeds ownership and transaction details directly into the distributed ledger. This approach, launched in 2021 with the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund, allows for second-by-second yield accrual and real-time reconciliation.
While Johnson highlighted cost efficiency during her panel—citing a transaction cost of $1.13 compared to significantly higher legacy fees—the math remains a point of contention. A January 2026 earnings transcript suggests that $1.13 was the total cost for 50,000 transactions on Stellar, rather than a per-transaction savings over a $150 legacy benchmark. Despite the discrepancy in reporting, the platform continues to scale, with RWA.xyz data placing Franklin Templeton’s distributed assets at approximately $2.6 billion across multiple public networks, including Stellar, Polygon, and Avalanche.
