The potential acquisition highlights Visa’s aggressive push to embed blockchain technology into its existing payment rails. Fireblocks, founded in 2018, specializes in institutional-grade tools for stablecoin settlement, digital asset custody, and tokenization. Its network reportedly processes over $200 billion in stablecoin transactions monthly, serving a client base that includes banks, fintech firms, and crypto exchanges.
This transaction would represent a 69% decrease from the $550 million Series E round in January 2022 that valued Fireblocks at $8 billion. While the price drop reflects the broader cooling of private market valuations in the digital asset sector, the integration of Fireblocks’ technology could accelerate Visa’s stablecoin initiatives. The companies already maintain a collaborative relationship through the Open Standard initiative, which facilitates infrastructure for stablecoin payments.
