The controversy intensified after project lead Mylo Bennett shared photos from the Exxxotica convention in New Jersey. The booth, branded as Mama’s Zcash Kitchen, showcased payment demonstrations and educational materials. In response, crypto trader TraderSZ publicly announced an increased short position on ZEC, citing disapproval of the project's marketing choices. Other social media users echoed this sentiment, arguing the association damages the project's reputation.
Despite the pushback, the ZECsy team maintains that sex workers are an ideal demographic for Zcash, as they frequently face de-platforming and restrictions from mainstream financial institutions. The program, which runs through August 2027, includes funding for five adult industry events, four crypto conferences, and eight workshops. According to the team's September progress report, 20 adult service providers have already begun accepting ZEC, utilizing the CipherPay point-of-sale system.
