The Depository Trust Company, a subsidiary of DTCC, now allows eligible participants to mint tokenized versions of stocks, ETFs, and Treasury securities. These digital assets remain tethered to the underlying holdings within the firm’s custody infrastructure, ensuring that economic entitlements and regulatory protections persist during blockchain-based transactions. JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citi, Fidelity, and Morgan Stanley are among the inaugural participants.

DTCC Launches Tokenization Service With 20 Major Banks
Twenty of the world’s largest financial institutions have joined the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s new tokenization platform, marking a pivot toward blockchain-based securities. The service allows firms to create digital twins of assets held in custody while maintaining traditional ownership rights and established investor protections.

Expanding to Public Infrastructure
While the platform currently operates on the private Canton and Besu networks, DTCC is preparing for a public blockchain rollout. Following successful technical evaluations, the organization plans to integrate with the Stellar network in the first half of 2027. Nadine Chakar, head of digital assets at DTCC, noted that Stellar met the company's rigorous security and performance parameters during development. This multi-chain strategy, supported by a 2025 SEC no-action letter, aims to broaden access to tokenized assets while keeping them within the familiar framework of existing market infrastructure.
