The October 29 announcement formalizes a partnership aimed at setting benchmarks for tokenized capital markets. Earlier this month, the CMTA’s Expert Committee determined that Cardano’s CIP-0113 implementation meets the necessary functional requirements for equity shares, provided issuers adhere to specific on-chain recording conditions. This recognition remains strictly limited to equity securities, explicitly excluding debt instruments and the underlying Cardano blockchain infrastructure from the certification scope.
CIP-0113 introduces granular controls for digital assets, enabling issuers to manage identity verification, transfer restrictions, and account freezes required for regulated instruments. While this framework facilitates compliance, individual companies must still undergo rigorous legal and technical reviews to obtain full CMTA certification. The Cardano Foundation has already utilized the standard for its spinout, Veridian, which issued shares as ledger-based securities earlier this month.
