Research indicates that 79% of African operators have identified this transition as their primary enterprise objective, increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence and standardized APIs to integrate digital services for businesses and governments.

Mobile Sector Drives $240 Billion Into African Economy
Mobile technologies generated $240 billion for the African economy in 2025, accounting for 7.8% of the continent’s total GDP. Beyond direct financial impact, the sector supported 13 million jobs and funneled $45 billion into public coffers, signaling a shift from basic connectivity to sophisticated digital infrastructure.
Despite this growth, the industry faces the challenge of translating existing coverage into widespread digital inclusion. While the economic contribution is projected to reach $290 billion by 2030, current affordability remains a significant barrier for many users. GSMA Director General Vivek Badrinath noted that the focus must move toward unlocking value through innovation while calling on the broader technology supply chain to help close the persistent usage gap.
