Nivi and MSD Deploy AI to Combat Cervical Cancer in Asia

With cervical cancer mortality rates in India reaching 58% above the global average, Nivi, Inc. and MSD are launching an AI-driven initiative to close critical information gaps. The partnership targets India, Indonesia, and Thailand, using conversational technology to connect millions with HPV prevention resources and local screening services.

The collaboration integrates Nivi’s conversational AI platform, which has already engaged 2.5 million users, with MSD’s expertise in HPV scientific education. By utilizing messaging channels like WhatsApp, the system provides personalized risk assessments and direct referrals to nearby vaccination centers. This approach aims to bypass traditional healthcare barriers in regions where public awareness of HPV and preventative screening remains dangerously low.

Dr. Priya Agrawal, Vice President of Health Equity and Partnerships at MSD, noted that the project is designed to empower individuals who are often missed by conventional education channels. Beyond direct patient support, the AI platform tracks real-time consumer behavior, providing MSD with data to refine its global health equity strategies. Siddhartha Goyal, CEO of Nivi, stated that the partnership signals a shift in how pharmaceutical entities engage with patient needs in emerging markets.

The public health stakes are significant. In 2022, India recorded 127,526 new cervical cancer cases and 79,906 deaths. While Thailand maintains higher screening coverage, all three target countries face a projected increase in disease burden of over 40% by 2040 without intervention. This initiative directly supports the World Health Organization’s goal of having 90% of girls vaccinated against HPV by age 15 by improving vaccine confidence and addressing pervasive information asymmetry.
